Session 3 Experiment
The goal now is to continue this experiment for another generation. We have stated that the non-dpy and non-lon hermaprodites on the plates actually carry one copy of the dpy-7 or lon-2 mutation, but do not show the defect because they are heterozygous and the mutation is recessive. Can we prove this? Yes, because if this is the case, then these animals should give rise to some dpy-7 or lon-2 homozygous progeny in the next generation. The trait will reappear! Fill in the Punnett Square that diagrams this.
What percent of the F2 generation animals do we expect to be mutant?
